MEMBERSHIP FEES
To maintain membership, members are responsible for the payment of
annual base dues + a wage assessment.
Please do not make any payments to B18 online or over the phone at this time.
ANNUAL BASE DUES:
$72.00 + any late fee (see below)
Right now, Dues can only be paid by check or money-order. The local is looking at a new way to pay dues online.
Please do not make any payments online or by phone at this time.
(If you are wondering about the old "inactive rate", see the FAQ at the bottom of this page.)
Base Dues Schedule:
Annual dues are payable by January 31 of the covered year, and become delinquent on February 1.
Late Penalty:
Dues not paid before February 1 of each year are delinquent and subject to a penalty of $2.00.
An additional $2.00 shall be added for each week in which the dues remain unpaid.
For 2020 dues, the late fee was frozen at 5 weeks ($10) on March 7, 2020.
For 2021 dues, late fees were waived during 2021,
but an abbreviated late fee of $10 was added on February 1, 2022.
Please note that the Local B18 constitution stipulates that payments in default for more than 6 months can trigger expulsion from the Local.
WAGE ASSESSMENT:
In addition to the payment of base dues, and as part of annual Membership Fees, members pay 1% of gross wages earned at all venues within the jurisdiction of Local B 18. This assessment will be applied to earnings up to $20,000 in any calendar year.
For the convenience of B18 members, most employers will collect the 1% during each pay period and send the amount to the Local. The employer shall cap such collection at $200 annually. To have the 1% deducted from your pay, please submit a Assessment Check Off Authorization Form to your B18 employer(s). A PDF of that form is available HERE.
If the 1% assessment is not automatically deducted from paychecks, a member is responsible for submitting the amount due directly to the Local. The assessment should be received by the Local at least quarterly, usually no later than according to the following schedule:
for earnings within Quarter 1 (Jan-Feb-Mar) - by May 1
for earnings within Quarter 2 (Apr-May-Jun) - by August 1
for earnings within Quarter 3 (Jul-Aug-Sep) - by November 1
for earnings within Quarter 4 (Oct-Nov-Dec) - by February 1 of the following year
If a quarterly payment (at minimum) is not made, a $2/week late fee will be assessed.
Payments may, of course, be made more frequently, or in advance. Contact Member Services for more information, to create an alternative payment schedule, or to arrange for online payment. (Online payments are subject to a fee to recover what the Local is charged for online processing.)
Note: if you do not work or receive wages from an B18 employer within a quarter, B18's constitution and bylaws require that you inform your local of that.
1% Feature: Member Services will calculate the amount owed if you supply a JPEG or PDF of the W-2 form(s) or latest paystub(s) from your B18 employer(s). You'll get an e-Invoice in return so that you can pay that amount online. Or you can send a check/money-order to the office.
INITIATION FEES:
$90.00 Local B18 initiation fee (refundable, if application is rejected)
+ $10.00 processing fee charged by the International (non-refundable)
+ $72.00 annual dues (as set out above, and refundable)
Payment should be included with the paper application form (or contact B18 to be emailed an invoice to pay online).
A single check for $172 is OK.
Please note: to apply, a person should already be working at a B18-represented venue.

Q. WHAT ABOUT AN INACTIVE RATE?
A. There is no inactive rate.
Before 2018 and the new Membership Fees structure, the "inactive rate" was $80 a year.
Now base dues are $72 and, when we work, we pay a 1% wage assessment.
Base dues + a 1% assessment on wages = the Membership Fee.
Base dues cover the per capita assessments that B18 is charged for your membership, whether or not you are working.
If you are having an issue with paying base dues, please contact
Member Services.
A newsletter was mailed to all members on November 27, 2017, introducing the new membership-fees structure for B18 adopted by the membership at the general meeting in October 2017. A PDF of that newsletter is available HERE.
