A San Francisco affiliate of IATSE
Founded in 1937, Local B-18 serves the employment needs of those who work as back stage door keepers, ticket takers, ushers, box office staff and other key personnel.
Because financial resources are still very limited, notification of meetings and other important news can only be handled by e-mail and posting on this website.
As approved at the April meeting, this quarterly general meeting is suspended.
(Posted 7/10/23, updating posting of 7/4)
The second quarterly meeting of 2023 was on Monday, April 17.
- As noticed in late March, there was a vote about changing B18's membership fees (including a raise in the wage assessment and the elimination of annual
dues payable by the end of January). The vote on whether to ratify the Executive Board's proposal was:
34 yes, 10 no, and 2 abstentions. The change was approved, information on implementation will follow.
- B18's constitution and bylaws allow for cancelling the July general meeting. Members present in April voted unanimously
to approve this, unless there is important business to discuss. A decision will be made in late June. If held, the meeting is scheduled
for July 10, at 6:30pm.

IATSE has announced that the union would donate $25,000 to support urgent humanitarian aid for Ukrainians. The donation, made through the International and European Trade Union Confederation (ITUC), will provide essentials like food, water, medical, and hygiene supplies to help those who desperately need assistance in Ukraine. Support is also being provided in Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, and Moldova, neighboring countries that are supporting an increasing number of Ukrainian refugees.
B18 members can go to
iatse.net/ukr to show solidarity with Ukrainian workers. Amounts are requested in Euros,
but you can go
here to get a conversion from dollars. Right now, a 20-Euro contribution would mean a payment of about
$21.70 (+ any Euro-conversion fee your banking/credit company might charge).

Membership fees are annual base dues ($72), payable by January 31,
and [not "or"]
payment of 1% on wages from venues within the jurisdiction of the Local, payable at least quarterly.
Full payment of dues is now $82, with a late fee covering just 5-weeks (the late coverage being increased gradually).
Please do not make any payments online or over the phone at this time.
Anyone joining the Local should contact Member Services before paying their dues, or any fees.
The Local is currently unable to process online dues-payment. No additional late fee is being assessed right now.
The 1% wage assessment usually can be deducted by your employer from each paycheck and sent to B18, if you request it. Assessment is currently applied to B18 earnings up to $20,000 in any calendar year. For more information, click the Membership Fees link in the navigation bar to the left.
1% assistance: Member Services will calculate the amount owed if you supply a JPEG or PDF of your W-2 form(s) from your B18 employer(s). (Updated 5/11/2023)
Fill out and submit this streamlined Work Referral Form online. It is a relatively simple, flexible way of registering work-interest with your union. Let B18 help you get more work. Try it! Employers are looking for staff!
B18 will use your information when asked for lists of members who may be interested in open positions or shifts.
And keep your information current; if you submitted a form before 2022, please consider updating your availability now.

A final request: remember that it is your responsibility to update Member Services when you start working for a new employer or stop
working for an old one. Thanks!
